
Discovering Cork Environmental Policy
At www.discoveringcork.ie we recognise that everything we do has an impact on the environment. We are trying to minimise any adverse environmental impacts associated with our activities and continuously improve our environmental performance.
We aim to:
- Comply with all relevant environmental legislation and industry standards. .
- Reduce our use of non-renewable resources and of energy produced from such resources.
- Reduce and recycle waste wherever practical.
- Prevent and minimise risks of water pollution.
- Use all resources as efficiently as possible.
- Increase the percentage of recycled materials we use and materials from renewable sources.
- Pass on the benefits of improved environmental practice to our staff and visitors.
- Strive for continuous improvement in our environmental management.
We intend to do this by:
- Reviewing our environmental impact annually to ensure that we maintain high environmental standards .
Specifically we are:
- Sourcing wind generated electricity from Airtricity in an effort to reduce our overall carbon footprint.
- Trying to conserve energy and water through regular checks and servicing of equipment.
- Using energy efficient lighting throughout our premises.
- Reducing our waste through re-use and recycling.
- Monitoring and reducing our use of non-ecological detergents and disinfectants and replacing them with ecological products.
- Educating, training and motivating staff to work in an environmentally responsible manner and to play a full part in developing new ideas and initiatives.
- Communicating our environmental actions to our visitors and the local business community in an effort to spread the message of sustainability.
- Spreading the message of responsible and sustainable tourism to our visitors.
- Encouraging and working with industry stakeholders to adopt similar practises in Cork.
- All tea and coffee served on our premises is Fair Trade, thereby helping to ensure a better deal for farmers in developing countries.
