Castlemartyr Resort: Golf Resort of the Year 2014

Castlemartyr Resort in East Cork has been named Golf Resort of the Year 2014 at the Irish Golf Awards at a prestigious event hosted in Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, Co. Mayo.

The inland links-style golf course and stylish and contemporary pavilion Clubhouse and Pro Shop at Castlemartyr are popular with golfers from home and abroad. A stimulating 18 hole, 6,790 yd, Par 72 golfing challenge from renowned designer Ron Kirby, who also created Irish masterpieces at Dromoland Castle, Old Head Kinsale and Mount Juliet, golf at Castlemartyr Golf & Spa Resort is visually pleasing, testing and a pleasure for players of any calibre.

The award was presented to General Manager, Cathal Lynch on behalf of the team at a ceremony held as part of the 17th National Golf Tourism Conference & 2014 Gala Irish Golf Awards, the largest gathering of golf tourism industry professionals across the island of Ireland and each year attracts delegates from Scotland, Wales, the United Kingdom, Europe and North America. Also in attendance from Castlemarty Resort were owners Patsy Supple and Brian Herlihy, Brenda Murphy, Director of Sales & Marketing, Brady Sherwood, Director of Golf, Jonathon Lee, Clubhouse Manager and Trevor Norris, Golf Super Intendant who all were extremely delighted with their award.

The event, now in its seventeenth year has developed to be a national showcase for the Irish golf tourism industry and for the region that hosts it each year. This year the event was supported by Mayo Co.Council, Fáilte Ireland, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Tourism Ireland. The Gala Irish Golf Awards are the pinnacle of the overall conference, creating a formal occasion which each year recognises the very best in the Irish golf industry.
