Lios-na-gCon is an excellent example of a restored ringfort close to Clonakilty. Ringforts were built and occupied between c.400 AD and c.1200 AD, in the Early Christian and Viking periods.
Barryscourt castle is the 16th century seat of the Barry family. The present castle, which has been renovated recently is a fine example of an Irish tower house with many defensive features such as a murder hole, crenulations, and stumble steps.

We pause here to remind you that the Park is large with many miles of trails. Some are short and can be covered quickly by even the most reluctant rambler while others are more extensive.
