Kinsale Garden of Remembrance is dedicated to the memory of Fr. Michael Judge, Chaplain in the New York Fire Department and to the 343 brave fire fighters, who so courageously lost their lives in New York on September 11th 2001. The Kinsale Garden of Remembrance was initiated by Kathleen Murphy, a nurse in New York City. She was born in Ringfinnan, Kinsale and her family continue to reside here. The first tree planting ceremony took place in November 2001 and this was followed by an official dedication of the garden on 10th March 2002 .
The dedication ceremony was attended by Irish relatives of the deceased New York fire fighters. Many of the fire fighters were of Irish descent. Attached to each tree is the name of each individual fireman. www.kinsale.ie

went to the emerald isle in sept.many said you must see Kinsale and they were absolutly correct ! Nowhere is the beauty of Ireland and the essence of it’s soul better expressed.Friendly people and fabulous seafood.one of the most astounding and moving moments of my life occured in this magical town. We stopped at THE WHITE HOUSE for a pint, and my wife goes to the bathroom, comes back, and says to me,”you have to see the wall in the hallway to the bathrooms”I said I’d get there eventually, but she said,”you have to see it now” her tone was so serious that I immediately went to see what had provoked such a strong response from my wife.there on one very long wall was a tribute to those who had died at the twin towers on 9-11-2001. Included were full policemans and firemans uniforms along with pictures of those who died, including the 343firefighters. tucked in the center of this was a picture of our nephew in law, kevin murphy, who died on the 101st floor of the first tower! the bartender,Micheal (the owner”s son)told us about the GARDEN OF REMEMBERENCE overlooking Kinsale, with a tree planted for each of the 343 firemen who gave thier lives.A nurse Kathleen Murphy, whose family lives in Kinsale, was a nurse in Brooklyn at the time of the Tragedy, and started the garden on her family’s property.Very moving and a must visit.
