What to Expect

What’s Cork City like?
Cork City itself is a relatively small, compact & friendly city, where pretty much everything is within walking distance from the city centre. There is always something going on with festivals, gigs and exhibitions etc so there always tends to be a buzzy atmosphere. And of course in Cork we LOVE our food. The place to start though is with our Video to get a flavour of what Cork has to offer.

The county is the biggest in Ireland, so how easy is it to get around?
For touring & exploring, its probably best to hire a car, but all the major towns are served with regular bus services which are good value and frequent.

Most important piece of clothing?
Two pieces really. A good pair of walking shoes/hiking boots (depending on how much walking you plan to do) and a rain jacket.

Does it rain in Ireland as much as people say?
We don’t like the word rain and refer to it as liquid sunshine! Once you are dressed appropriately, you don’t have to worry about such things. And if it does rain heavily, why do you think we have so many great pubs & restaurants. (just make sure you are not the one doing the driving!)

What are the main reason visitors come to Cork?
Without sounding like a tourist brochure, people come for so many reasons the main ones in no particular order being.

  • The relaxed way of life.
  • The unspoilt great out doors.
  • The spectacular coastline, coupled with post card villages.
  • The music and the craic.
  • The heritage and historical culture of Ireland and the amazing gardens.
  • And of course the food, which we believe is the best in the world.
