Ireland's Ancient East Day Tour

Ireland’s Ancient East Day Tour – Private Tour

Discover 5,000 years of history and heritage on Ireland’s Ancient East with this day tour from Cork. You will visit Ireland’s oldest City Waterford, the medieval city of Kilkenny and the spectacular medieval Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary, surrounded by some of the most beautiful country-side in Ireland. The Ireland’s Ancient East Day Tour is a great way to connect with nature and Ireland’s heritage along the East Coast of Ireland.

Ireland’s Ancient East stretches from Newgrange and the Boyne Valley in the north east of Ireland and ranges through the midlands all the way down via Kilkenny’s Medieval mile to Waterford’s Viking Quarter and Cork’s many cultural attractions.

Departing Cork at 08:30 we travel to Waterford City, Ireland’s oldest centre of continuous urban settlement and consequently Ireland’s oldest City. Founded by the Vikings between 856 and 914, the city is over 1,000 years old. We will visit the home of Waterford Crystal and Waterford’s Viking Triangle – a complex of 3 local history museums housing artifacts from Viking to modern via medieval ages.

After free time for an early lunch in Waterford, we will depart Waterford and travel to the medieval city of Kilkenny. We will hear tales of invasions and rebellion that will let your imagination take flight amongst the walls of Ireland’s greatest castles. Built in 1195, Kilkenny Castle stands dramatically on a strategic height and dominates the ‘High Town’ of Kilkenny City.

We will then visit The Rock of Cashel, also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick’s Rock, a historic site located at Cashel, County Tipperary. A spectacular group of Medieval buildings, including the 12th century round tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral.

The Ireland’s Ancient East Day Tour is a wonderful opportunity to experience 5000 years of history in a compact area. Take the time to discover it all, the Stone Age art, the monasteries, the castles and fortresses.
